As a part of the continuing endeavour of Vidya Bhawan Society, Rural Institute was established in 1956 to impart quality education to the deprived sections of rural India. Under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Education, Government of India, it was conceived as one in the chain of institutes of rural higher education started at various places in the country focusing on teaching, research and extension to cater to the growing and fast emerging needs of the rural community. Over the last 50 years, Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute has been serving in the field of higher education. Established with the primary objective of filling the gap between rural and urban sections of society and catering to the growing and fast emerging needs of rural community, Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute successfully continues its long and arduous journey. Achievements

The Institute as its avowed objective of serving the weak, strives to concentrate all its energies and resources on the all round development of rural youth in a quiet, serene and highly conducive atmosphere of learning. In spite of commercialization and privatization of higher education, the Institute has successfully adhered to the pursuit of its basic philosophy and has maintained a steady pace of growth notwithstanding the financial crunch it has been facing over the period of last five years. Recognising its sustained and concrete services to the society over the last fifty years, the Institute has achieved a unique distinction of being assessed and accredited with B++ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Banglore. Our Institute is the first grant-in-aid college affiliated to M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur that got itself assessed and accredited by NAAC. The grade obtained by the Institute is similar to that obtained by the M.L. Sukhadia University,Udaipur.Recently it has also been conferred the status of Model College - centre of excellence-by the state government in order to strengthen teaching, research and extension. The Institute is assigned the historic and significant role to provide academic guidance and leadership to colleges in the region in terms of designing and introducing vocational and professional courses, undertaking faculty improvement training and orientation programmes, major and minor research project modernization of syllabus, providing access to modern technology to the deprived section of our society. The Institute does not have formal records regarding prominent positions held by the alumni. However, from personal contact between teachers and students it could be stated that many of alumni are holding very good positions in govt. and semi govt. bodies, universities and corporate & business sector serving as doctors, engineers, college and University teachers, chartered accountants, bank officers, state and central Government executives.

Vision

After the accolade received from NAAC and the conferring of the status of a Model College (Centre of Excellence) by the State Government, the Institute is all set to embark of its dream to develop it as a major centre of learning in higher education not only in Rajasthan but in the entire country. The Institute has over the years build confidence in the society by establishing its credibility at large. It looks itself to be known for facilitating research, provide academic, professional & vocational knowledge to all and in particular to the rural community and the backward sections of society who have been neglected ever since the privatisation of education began. We look towards carrying out programs that would widen the horizone, increase the decision making capacity and provide training to increase their employment opportunities. We wish to reposition and restructure the Institute to financial and academic autonomy so as to induct wide range of academic, professional and vocational courses. We also want to develop it as a deemed university. Even in the existing framework we are planning to start M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, MA Geography, BCA, MCA, PGDCA, Post Graduate Diploma in remote sensing, P.G. Diploma in Insurance, Four year Integrated course leading to the award of BA-B.Ed./B.Sc. B.Ed. degrees. To further the academic pursuits we wish to strengthen our infrastructure with addition of more classrooms, laboratories, gymnasium, computer centre, well equipped seminar hall and conference room. We would continue to pursue our aim to be recognised as an ideal centre of education that would become a model for others to emulate. It would maintain its steady pace of growth and shall be cherished for its commitment to make the world better and equitable place.
