The Rural Institute offered a diploma in Civil & Rural Engineering with the objective to provide engineering skills to learners from the rural areas. With this objective, Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College was established in the year 1956. It ensures quality education in a democratic and free atmosphere to its students who come from all over India. Students from all sectors of society come to this institute. It is a co-educational college that does not make any gender or economic discrimination among its students. Ninety percent of students are boys and ten percent of students are girls. 15% of students belong to SC category and 10% to ST category, 40% of students get admission from OBC and 5% from minority groups, as per the norms laid by the government. We have Well qualified and devoted faculty. Total number of teachers is 34. There are 26 engineering graduates including 22 male and 4 female teachers, out of which 3 are post graduates (MSc./M.A.), 3 Undergraduates, one M.Phil., one Postgraduate (M.Lib.). Teachers treat the students like family members. There are 42 non-teaching staff members in our college including 13 technical staff members. Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College is affiliated to the Board of Technical Education Rajasthan, Jodhpur offering Diploma in Engineering in five branches i.e. Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical and Information Technology.

Infrastructural Facilities

There are 12 properly ventilated class rooms and 14 well-equipped labs to conduct various tests and experiments. A separate portion has been established for computer science and I.T. having 5 labs. A large workshop for carpentry, sheet metal, welding and black smithy is also an important part of the institute. A conference hall for organising presentations, seminars and meetings was constructed few years back. There is an OHP, LCD and audio system as technological aids. There are two large playgrounds for playing hockey, football, basketball, volleyball and an indoor games room for students to play table tennis, carrom, chess, badminton etc. Hostel facility is also available for the accommodation of the students coming from outside. There are 34 rooms with all facilities, one guest room and warden's office in the hostel. A good mess is attached with the hostel that has a large dining hall which provides healthy, and hygienic food. A rich library for the students is located in a peaceful corner of the college. There are 13059 books, 29 journals (13 technical and 16 Non-technical).

Mission of the Institute

The main mission of our institute is to provide technical skills to a common student at a very low cost, so as to enable him to raise his standard of living. We insist on developing appropriate technology for rural people so that their ardeous life can become little more comfortable. We impart technological training to poor youth in order to make them self reliant. We are determined to make our institute a center of execellence where quality education is provided.

Distinguishing Features

Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College is the oldest polytechnic of Rajasthan and is the only Polytechnic in Udaipur. It has second largest intake capacity. It has won an award of 'Best Polytechnic' of Northern India. The main strength of our college is a qualified and devoted faculty with well equipped labs. It also offers a wide variety of courses for young students with science background and also for rural men and women. The institution considers itself specially important not only in Rajasthan, but also India because our placement cell is one of the most efficient one. This year about 75% of our students were placed in reputed companies with salary ranging from Rs. 7000 to Rs. 12000 per month. It is probably the only polytechnic that runs three programs of central government namely C.P.W., I.I.P.C. and E.M.D. Some of our faculty members are being sent to presue post graduation and higher studies for their technical enhancement. We have incorporated audio, video and internet in our methodology of teaching. We are proud of our lushgreen campus with large playground. Students from various branches secure a place in the board merit list. One of our I.T. students stood first in the merit this year. The projects made by our students are being appreciated and funded by DST, Govt. of Rajasthan.

Innovation and Experiments

Innovating new teaching methodology and learning through our past experience is our day to day affair. Various experiments and tests are conducted in our civil, electronics, computer and electrical labs. Testing of construction material for national level projects of construction is conducted at our institute. We do in-house repair, maintenance and upgradation of our equipments. We are working on various power saving devices and have also worked a lot on water harvesting. From this year we are working on a new concept of 'Zero Waste Technique' with our first year students.

Vision for the future

Since its establishment Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College has developed itself and reached the heights of success and we hope that our labour and devotion will help us to reach new horizons of success in near future. We hope that our college will become ideal college and dream for a most modern college with a splendid building and latest technologies and equipments. To provide quality technical education to the students, Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic will establish a special cell to promote excellence in technical education, develop audio visual teaching aids for quality education, System supported labs for all branches, and a LAN connected library. Professional industrial training will be provided for a period of 6 to 8 weeks in government/non-government organisations and industries, Projects that are significant for engineering students would be taken up. We would collaborate with industries under EMD/IIPC and also enhance campus interviews. We will make our efforts for getting financial aid from NBA under AICTE. We look forward to setting up a new engineering college in the region. The new job oriented crash courses that we propose to initiate for students would attract the lower income group of the society: include Architecture, building and planning, low cost security and defence, Management Information System, Fire and insurance management We have initiated collaboration with 'Ajeevika Bureau' which is a non-profit organisation established in 2004. We provide trainings in different trades to rural youth for self employment. In future we also intend to strengthen our infrastructure and develop a sports complex, indoor stadium and swimming pool, a complex for conventions, conferences etc. incorporating mini auditoria, attached guest house and hostel, A separate campus for computer science and information technology faculties and a separate recreation room for staff members.

Human Resource Development

To update and enrich our staff with latest developments in the field of Technology and Technical Education the college would have a regular feature of sending one or two staff members to attend short term courses conducted by NITTTR every year. More and more students would be encouraged to use their skill to develop non-conventional energy resources based projects. We want to establish electronic integration of all the departments using high speed connectivity to provide modern educational technologies like video conferencing and internet and also to develop paper less correspondence among the staff members and administration.
